Tasting – Parkers Estate

This Sauvignon Blanc from Parkers Estate from the year 2016. From California the wine was sale, and won bronze and silver medals in 2015 for international competitions.

              The winemaker noted the wine as, “A blend of sun-exposed and shade-grown grapes were selected for the Parkers Estate Sauvignon Blanc. The sun-exposed grapes provide nuances of tropical fruit while the shaded clusters provide herbal aromas. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit flavors. Gentle filtration removed residual yeast and the wine was cold-bottled in the spring.”

              A reviewer wrote, “Light crisp. Nice minerality. Limestone and granite. White peach lemon, lychee, grapefruit. Very toned down and almost watery.”

I do not particularly enjoy white wines and this one was much of the same for me. Light and clean it was easy to drink, may have paired well with lighter foods but I did not have food with it.

Notte Rossa Lambrusco an Italian Red for $7.00 A review thought this of the Lambrusco, “This is a better Lambrusco from Emilia, IGT. Deep garnet colored, moderate plus sweetness, little acidity or tannins. 7.5% ABV. Red fruit flavors. Will go over well with our dinner guest this evening. Easy drinking, inexpensive and fun!” The wine was alright quality, about the same tier as wine I’ve been drinking, just a very mild style. Was able to pick out some fruit flavors and understand why this wine is used in sangria.

Tasting April 15-22: Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon

Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon This 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was bold in flavor and style. Offering dark berry and fruit flavors as well as some oak. It was smooth to drink for as heavy and thick the wine seemed to be. A wine critic wrote, “It smells like wild blackberries and boysenberries and tastes almost that fruity, while blending in meaty, chocolaty, black peppery flavors that seem to coat the tongue. It is concentrated, bold and stands out from the pack”. This wine furthered my belief that cabernet sauvignon is one of my favorite varietals.

Tasting April 8 - 15: Dark Horse Rose

Dark Horse Rose This Rose from Modesta, California was definitely fruit forward. Beth Liston the Dark Horse winemaker made this rose to be a Provence-style to be dry, bright, and crisp. This Rose is made from Grenache, Barbera, Pinot Grigio, Tempranillo, and Zinfandel grapes had was dryer than I expected for a rose. The fruit flavors were forward in addition to the dryness and I was able to pick up on red fruits. A reviewer wrote, “I kind of stumbled on Dark Horse a few months back. Good rose is hard to find especially at a reasonable price. So, when my usual brand was out I tried a bottle of Dark Horse rose. It is great, crisp and dry enough to make you sip again”. I stumbled on the wine the same way this reviewer did, where I wasn’t expecting to get it but its value made it stand out.
